Brian Busch has been a big supporter of Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) for over ten years now through the Truck Convoy in Paris. It all started by supporting his father, Fred who was an original with the Truck Convoy family and regular top fifteen fundraiser. Brian supported his father in any role needed and eventually ended up competing with him as a fellow driver, representing Karefree Highway Inc.
Unfortunately, the Truck Convoy family lost Fred last year, but in an incredible show of solidarity in the community, Brian ended up as the Lead Truck for the 2019 Truck Convoy in Paris, raising over $7,200 in the process. Brian reflected on his history with the Convoy alongside Fred, “My favourite memory has to be Convoying with my dad. Both riding and competing in fundraising against him. Then to win the lead truck in 2019 was incredibly memorable.”
It is obvious to see Brian’s connection to Special Olympics when attending the Convoy. His connection to the athletes and appreciation of the whole community shines through. “I have been involved in or donated time and money to many organizations. Special Olympics is one where you actually know, see, and feel that your time fundraising or volunteering is appreciated and going to a great cause. Not only does this event bring together truck drivers, and athletes, it brings everyone together.
Brian’s passion for the Convoy has brought him into a role on the organizing committee. In this role, he is always in touch with fellow drivers and encouraging them to come join the Truck Convoy family. “The Convoy is a fun, family event. This is the one event I can guarantee you will leave with your head held high. The feeling of accomplishment or fulfillment with love knowing you helped the athletes is amazing. Trust me they will let you know. Come once, I guarantee you will come back.” We will miss seeing Brian and his fellow drivers without being able to Convoy in person this year. However, the impact they have made over the years is still being felt by the athletes.
