Long time Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run supporter Don Dunphy was asked nine years ago by Peel Regional Police to participate in the Paris Truck Convoy. When asked about his highlight of his time with the Truck Convoy, it all goes back to the beginning. “My favourite memory has to be taking part in my very first Convoy as a driver. I will never forget the joy it gave me all around.”
Dunphy’s passion for the Truck Convoy grew every year. Eventually in 2016, the first GTA Truck Convoy was held, with Dunphy being an integral part of the organizing committee. A very successful event which is planning on holding another in person version in 2021. “It is amazing to see the joy on the athlete’s AND driver’s faces when they get to take part in such an amazing event. Bringing the athletes of Special Olympics together with the trucking community has been incredible!”
The GTA Truck Convoy is headed up by the Peel Regional Police with support from other Law Enforcement agencies and companies around the GTA. The event has been a staple at the CAA Centre in Brampton every September. The GTA Truck Convoy committee is looking forward to bringing the trucking community, Special Olympics community and Torch Run community back together again when it is safe.
